RYE BROOK, N.Y.––August 2, 2012––American Dental, the largest private dental practice in the New York City-Long Island metro area, has upgraded its company-wide communications capabilities by implementing Broadview Networks’ award-winning, cloud-based OfficeSuite® phone system.
During the past 50 years, American Dental, recently named Health Care Provider of the Year by the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, has treated more than one million New Yorkers through its staff of 200 dentists, specialists and paraprofessionals. However, with an outdated phone system at its corporate headquarters and separate hardware-based phone systems at each of the practice’s ten dental office locations, ensuring efficient company-wide communication was complicated, time-consuming and expensive.
Like many other businesses with multiple locations, American Dental found it difficult to communicate between offices and even more challenging to diagnose problems, as IT staff were not located at every office. Instead, Dara Masi, the director of information technology, supported all 11 phone systems from the company’s headquarters. In order to sustain this complicated infrastructure, the practice was forced to purchase multiple maintenance contracts and hire several IT consultants.
In search of a better solution, American Dental contacted the experts at Total Telecom Solutions, who recommended that they remove their DSL lines, add a MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) network from Broadview and implement Broadview’s award-winning, cloud-based phone system. After careful consideration, OfficeSuite® was chosen to provide the practice with one integrated phone system for its 11 locations.
OfficeSuite® was selected because it does not require capital expenditure, is very easy to use and integrates seamlessly with the MPLS network. “With OfficeSuite®, everyone is now on the same network, so calling someone in our Staten Island office is as easy as calling someone in our corporate office—you just type in the extension,” Masi said. “Thanks to the MPLS network, the practice now has a high-speed connection to the Internet and a high-speed connection to the network—and we achieved all this without having to increase bandwidth.”
Masi identified the ability to redirect calls automatically to other offices, mobile phones and home phones as one of the most impactful OfficeSuite® features, as it prevents the practice from losing business or missing calls in cases of emergencies or office closings. Staff members are also able to use any phone at any office while maintaining their extensions and personal phone preferences, including voicemail, as they move.
Masi is now able to monitor and manage one phone system for all of the practice’s 11 locations from anywhere at any time. “OfficeSuite gives me transparent online monitoring. When I log into the OfficeSuite administrative website, I can literally control every phone in the entire practice,” said Masi. “As the IT director for a multi-site business, having that visibility and control is priceless.”
